
BACKGROUND
Deaf Institute of Communication and Sign Language Trainings (DICSLT) is a registered entity in Kenya partnering with various local and international Organizations, Government, Companies, Institutions in different programs, activities in Sign language trainings and Disability etiquette, mentorship, tactile training, capacity building, disability mainstreaming and partnering with institution such as banks, companies, churches, collages among others in training staffs in service provision for Deaf persons / persons with hearing impairment. The main purposes of the institution is to breach communication gap between the Hearing, Deaf community, Deaf blind and mainstreaming of various disabilities in the society, training of disability etiquette and Kenya sign language communication skills.
The institute is also a member of national counsel for persons with disabilities, a government body that is responsible for all the issues to do with disabilities and from which the institute have been given the mandate to train and empower service providers in the government and also private sectors in order to equip their members with sign language communication skills to enhance communication skills for better services. We have also been approved, appointed and we are in the data base of Kenya Bankers Association as the Kenya sign language and disability etiquette trainers to their member banks.

OBJECTIVE
To empower economically the Deaf community with entrepreneurship skills and trainings of Deaf culture and sign language to the hearing community thus promoting mainstreaming of sign language communication skills in the service points in government and private sector.

ACHIEVEMENT
Deaf Institute of Communication and Sign Language Trainings, has helped churches, banks and other service providers in their transformative journey towards inclusivity and empowerment of personnel on sign language communication. The Sign Language trainings has been a key driver in fostering an environment that is not only welcoming but also conducive to the full participation of the Deaf in all matter of social development. A heightened awareness and understanding of the needs of the Deaf community. This newfound knowledge has translated into a more inclusive and interactive experience, where Deaf persons are actively engaged in services provided. One of the most notable outcomes is the increased involvement of the Deaf community with service providers, making them feel a sense of belonging and are more eager to participate in services provided. Our interpreter’s demonstrate professionalism and commitment. They are well-equipped with the necessary skills to exhibit great ethical standards in their work. They play a crucial role in facilitating effective communication and ensuring that every participant’s feels heard and understood

ORGANIZATION TRAINING EXPERIENCES
In our areas of consultation and trainings of different institutions and companies the following are some of our experiences in empowering with Kenya Sign Language communication skills in the past. Community development fund (CDF Embakasi west) – Training of police officers, community health promoters, hospital nurses and government administrators. CITAM Church (Christ is the Answer Ministries) Karen – training Pastor and Reverends. training of professionals –Teachers, doctors, nurses, administrators, business expertise, pilots, human resources personnel and government civil servants. Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) –Sign Language training of staff of Diamond Trust Bank Kenya in year 2022, 2024, January to April 2025. CITAM Church (Christ is the Answer Ministries) Buruburu – Training of Pastors/Reverends, Business Men and Women, Community Health Promoters, Industry Workers, Church Administrators And Church Ministry Leaders 2024 and 2025. APDK (Association of Persons with Disability Kenya) – training different companies who are service providers – Nairobi water, Kisumu water, Mombasa water, KCB bank, SBM Bank Kenya, ECO bank among other in attendance. Kenya Law (National council for Law Reporting) –training of certified Lawyers, Human resource personnel, administrators and senior administrators



SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETATION SERVICES
In providing services to different institution and companies in the area of sign language services we have been of great influence and impact in providing sign language interpretation. The following are some of banks and companies that we have provided sign language and interpretation services during their yearly Annual General Meetings and other interpretation services – in partinaship with Image Registra company we have provided interpretation services for the following companies :- Cooperative Bank Kenya, DTB Bank, Equity Bank Kenya, Standard Chartered Bank Kenya, Stanbic Bank Kenya, HFC, Britam Insurance Company, CIC Insurance Company, KCB Bank Kenya, Kingdom Bank and among others finance institutions (SACCOS) and companies
